Most of us have experienced stress at some point and quite a few people genuinely feel stressed regularly. The severity of the stress will largely depend upon the circumstance and how the person handles it. Sadly, the after effects of specific stressful events can become overwhelming and hard to cope with. These overwhelming experiences can then be re-activated by day to day circumstances, leading to problems with everyday life. This issue is in many cases diagnosed as PTSD; the effects can be both physical and psychological in nature and would normally have a substantial impact on their everyday life.

The foundations for PTSD can be laid in numerous ways, for instance, by witnessing a horrific accident, being assaulted or being affected by a natural disaster. Memories of disturbing occurrences can badly affect people, specifically those serving in the army. Left untreated, the symptoms of PTSD can have a long lasting effect on daily life.

Due to the way it has been portrayed over the years, many people wonder if hypnotherapy treatments actually work. But recent research has shown that a hypnotic approach brings about noticeable changes in the brain and so we now have data which confirms that it does stimulate a different response.

Stanford University has completed research with volunteers who were hypnotised and told they were observing coloured objects. When they were studying the objects, there was an increase in blood flow to the area of the brain that registers colour, even though in reality the objects were monochrome. This shows that hypnosis can modify perceptions. A hypnotherapist can use this system to change unwanted behaviour and bring about constructive changes

Huge numbers of people are affected by significant and long lasting pain. Here we focus on the effects that it can have on someone and how hypnotherapy can assist to handle that pain.

Pain is a huge problem, with around 10 million suffers in the United Kingdom alone (which is 20% of the populace!)(1). Pain is meant to warn us of damage, but when that warning continues for long periods, it can be both debilitating and stressful. Pain can come from lots of sources, including health problems, injury and medical procedures, and even the stress and strain of life. The use of medications can be a great help with pain but usually they would only go part way in removing the pain for periods of time and lots of people simply have to accept the pain.

Pain can be a warning that is challenging to ignore. The results of long lasting pain can be just as devastating as a severe pain from a recent injury.

Being an adolescent is hard. They often endure feelings of low self-esteem, anxiousness as well as hormonal complications. Some young adults feel a higher amount of anxiousness and stress that can impinge on their day to day life. According to research, ten percent of our children below the age of 16 suffer from mental health difficulties (1). The fact it happens to loads of children doesn’t make it any easier for those that face it.

Some mental health problems can be treated effectively with hypnotherapy and can produce long term results.
